Scrubs Scores Alum Triple Play

A recent episode of NBC's hit sitcom Scrubs featured no fewer than three local alums. Sam Lloyd ('85), George Miserlis ('85), and Paul Perry ('89) all met while they were students at Syracuse. Sam and George were roommates, and in between classes Paul and Sam performed together in a Beatles cover band. The three eventually came to Los Angeles and teamed up with Philip McNiven to form the a cappella singing group The Blanks.

Sam has a recurring role as a lawyer on Scrubs, and sang with the group at the show's Christmas party. When series creator Bill Lawrence heard The Blanks perform, he was so impressed he decided to write their act into the show. As a result, they ended up on this past season's penultimate episode opposite Brendan Fraser.

Incidentally, Sam Lloyd also appears on NBC's The West Wing as UFO conspiracy theorist Bob Engler. That show boasts another SU triad of performers, which includes a reporter played by Timothy Davis-Reed ('84) and a communications aide played by Devika Parikh ('88). Of course, the show itself was created by Syracuse grad Aaron Sorkin ('83).
